Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 3 tbsp Spanglish Asadero All Purpose Seasoning
  • 3 oz tomato paste
  • 2 cups water
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 1 (4 oz.) can chopped green chiles
  • 1 (15 oz.) can hominy (drained)
  • 1.5 cups shredded pork, chicken, or beef (pre-cooked)
  • 1 fresh lime (cut into wedges)
  • 1/2 bunch fresh cilantro (roughly chopped)

Sauté Your Base

  1. Finely dice the onion and heat it in a large soup pot along with the cooking oil over medium heat. Sauté for 3 to 5 minutes, or until the onion turns tender and transparent.
  2. Add the flour and Spanglish Asadero All Purpose Seasoning, stirring continuously for about 2 minutes to avoid burning. The mixture will be fairly dry, so keep it moving!

Create the Flavorful Base

  1. Pour in 2 cups water and add the 3 oz. of tomato paste. Whisk the mixture together until the tomato paste is completely dissolved. Allow it to come to a simmer, which will thicken the mixture and develop the flavors.

Add Broth and Main Ingredients

  1. Add the chicken broth, shredded meat, diced green chiles, and hominy (drained) into the pot. Stir everything together to combine. Heat the soup through for approximately 10 minutes, letting the flavors blend together.
