Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ground beef

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Spanglish Asadero All Purpose seasoning

  • 1 garlic clove, finely chopped

  • ¼ white onion, finely chopped

  • 2 Cups Maseca (corn flour)

  • 2 Cups warm water

  • 1 pinch of salt

  • Oil for frying

For Serving:

  • Refried beans

  • Chopped lettuce

  • Mexican crema

  • Crumbled queso fresco

  • Salsa to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the meat: In a skillet with a little oil, add the ground beef. Season with salt, pepper, and Spanglish Asadero All Purpose Seasoning. Cook for 3 minutes, then add the garlic and onion. Mix, cover, and let cook for 8 minutes.

  2. Prepare the dough: In a bowl, mix the Maseca, pinch of salt, and warm water. Knead well for about 5 minutes until smooth and workable.

  3. Form the sopes: Take a portion of dough, shape it into a small tortilla, and cook it on a griddle for 1 minute on each side. Remove, and while still warm, pinch the edges with your fingers to form the sope shape.

  4. Fry: Heat oil in a skillet and fry the sopes until golden.

  5. Serve: Spread a layer of refried beans, add the ground beef, and top with lettuce, crema, queso fresco, and salsa to taste.
